Richmond's Shockoe Slip

We are tremendously excited to be located in the heart
of Richmond’s historic Shockoe Slip and to be
contributing to the continuing Renaissance of Downtown.
There is an unmistakable sense of vibrancy permeating
the area these days. Old warehouses and office buildings
are being renovated all around us, new restaurants
are opening, and retailers like us are giving “The
Slip” a chance.
If
you have never been to Richmond, now is the time to
come. If you are a native to this beautiful city,
now is the time to rediscover your Downtown. Make
a day of it some Saturday this summer and meander
along the rebuilt Canal Walk, which allows visitors
to access the James River (“the only metropolitan
whitewater river in the country,” according
to the River District enthusiasts). Take a break and
grab a bite at a neighborhood café. Maybe stroll
down to the 17th Street Farmer’s Market just
a few blocks away. Then come back to our store and
treat yourself to something fun.
In
case you are wondering, the technical boundaries of
the Shockoe Slip historic district are 12th Street,
15th Street, Main Street, and Dock Street. The Farmer’s
Market is actually in Shockoe Bottom. Known for its
nightlife, “The Bottom” is another newly
revitalized area worth checking out. The word Shockoe
was the name of the creek that bordered Richmond to
the west back in the 18th Century. The word
Slip has to do with the area’s close proximity
to the river and canal and the many boat slips.
